Minor excitement in the neighborhood

fallen tree

This picture is taken from my porch looking directly across the street. I guess this is one of the dangers of having lots of trees in the neighborhood. Still, it just wouldn't be the same without them.

I have just 3 words to say about this picture:

Change in Plans Already

Filed under: The Greenville Project, Updates — starvingplaywright @ 5:16 pm

So…we haven't really even started the new project and we've hit a stumbling block. The plan to accelerate the process via borrowing some carts from OSUMC was foiled. It's a long story, but the crucial pieces are, it's not going to happen, and it wasn't our fault. Time to figure out plan B. My boss and I will be flying to SC next Monday and spending a couple of days down there meeting with the hospital and coming up with a new solution.

‘Emeril Live’ in Columbus, OH

Filed under: Random Scribbles — starvingplaywright @ 8:20 am

Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse, star on Food Network Television visited little-ol' Columbus, OH in February. Clips from his visit to our lovely North Market will be featured this weekend on his TV show "Emeril Live" in an episode titled: Red Hot Kitchen. The episode airs on Sunday here, but check your local listings.

I'm not a big fan of Emeril necessarily (I'm much more likely to watch 30-Minute Meals or Good Eats, for example), but this episode should be worth watching to see what you're missing by not living in Columbus, OH. The North Market is a favorite 'grocery' shopping destination for us, particularly in the summer when the outdoor market area is opened up to local growers to peddle their locally-grown produce. Yummy! Inside the North Market is also an ecclectic array of specialty shops from fresh flowers to soy candles to decadent desserts. It's a great lunch destination as well with restaurants selling everything from Indian to Mexican to the more traditional pizza-by-the-slice.

Okay to Go

Filed under: The Greenville Project, Updates — starvingplaywright @ 5:53 pm

We got word today that we can start on the Greenville, SC project. We had been waiting until some final contract negotiations were worked out, and I assume this means that they were taken care of. What this means most immediately is that my boss and I will be driving a moving truck from Columbus, OH to Greenville, SC this next Monday (delivering some of the carts that were used on the OSUMC project) so that we can jump-start the design process for the new carts that will be used in SC. Anticipated return will be that Thursday. I will certainly prefer flying, but this will give us an opportunity to start planning our approach to this project.

Exciting News!

Filed under: The Greenville Project, Updates — starvingplaywright @ 4:59 pm

I just got a job! Or maybe I should say my boss just got us hired on a new project, which is great since the current project is steadily winding its way into non-existence, and we were facing the possibility of being between projects for awhile if this one didn't go through.

So. The company we are working for (as the project management team) was one of four bidders on a project very similar to the last job I've been involved with (i.e. robotic transport of materials at a hospital). My new job comes with the nifty title of 'assistant project manager' on a multi-million dollar project, so it will look great on a resume (not to mention the nifty pay increase and added responsibilities I'll have). It does mean my life as I know it will be changing drastically as I will be commuting to Greenville, SC for the next, oh 9 months at least. The current plan will be to work on location during the week, and fly back to Columbus, OH on (most) weekends. More details will follow…

On Saturday I went with some friends to the Franklin Park Conservatory, especially to see a butterfly exhibit. I had a great time and took lots of photos. Here are a few samples:
